Boundlessly Personal: The Stage Premiere in Zevenbergen Touches Hearts
A stage premiere is always something truly special. Anton van Doornmalen recently performed his new programme, “Grenzenlos” (Boundless), for the very first time in Zevenbergen, the Netherlands. Those who came to Theater de Schuur experienced a thought-provoking concert featuring songs in Dutch, English (“Bye Bye Love”) and even German. After all, practically everyone in the Netherlands knows the song “Gute Nacht, Freunde” (Good Night, Friends). The Dutch singer-songwriter was once again accompanied by his highly professional live band. “That’s what makes it so special – everything is played live,” said the singer. “People can feel how much the musicians enjoy what they do.” Having violinist Joke de Jong as part of the band adds another special touch.
Anton was joined on stage not only by his band but also by his daughter Anke and his granddaughter Lieke. Together, the three performed the “Generation Song”. Anton also sang “You Are” with Anke. The audience could sense that Anton had something meaningful to share. Every song tells a story. There was also time for conversation and connection, particularly during the half-hour interval, when drinks and light refreshments were served.
During the songs, images were projected onto a screen, with just one video clip shown throughout the concert – no other videos. This created an even more intimate, reflective atmosphere. “And the new songs were really well received,” Anton said after the concert. Anyone who would like to experience the concert for themselves can already book tickets for the next performance on 14 March via the Theater de Schuur website. Once again, it will be an afternoon concert in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Another concert is also planned for next year in Werl-Büderich, Germany. More about that later.
