Three voices, three generations and one shared message: love connects. With “The Generation Song,” Büderich-based singer-songwriter Anton van Doornmalen has released a deeply personal song. Alongside him, his daughter Anke and his granddaughter Lieke can also be heard on the track. Together, they tell a musical story about family, togetherness and the things that remain across generations.
The idea for the song came from granddaughter Lieke, who also takes the lead vocal. Musically, “The Generation Song” is shaped by folk influences. In the chorus, the lyrics say: “Love is just everything / Love is even more / Love is the reason / It’s the reason that we’re living for.”
“The Generation Song” is now available on Spotify and all major streaming platforms. There is also a YouTube clip for the song, making the family connection behind the music visible as well. All proceeds from van Doornmalen’s music and concerts go to the Sibusiso Foundation, which supports a village project in Tanzania for children with intellectual disabilities. The German support association is based in Büderich; its chairman is Josef Blienert.
“We are family, of course, so singing together feels completely natural to us. We recorded the song in the studio with a lot of joy and fun – and you can feel that, both in the song and in the accompanying video,” says Anton van Doornmalen.
